COBO launches division for sensors

Premium Content

COBO, the Italian supplier of electronics and componentry for mobile equipment, has created a new ‘sensing’ division to develop and market a range of products for aerial work platforms and other machinery.

The sensing division, which has been carved out of COBO’s Electronics division, has created a new product family including boom length sensors, inclinometers, pressure sensors and rotary sensors.

The range will also include obstacle detection and anti-collision sensors for aerial work platforms and other machines.

Stefano Scapin, COBO’s Hong Kong-based chief business development officer for the APAC region, said the anti-collision devices will use technologies including ultrasound and radar to create what he described as dynamic monitoring systems, with alarms initiated before any impact.

Scapin told IRN that AWPs represented “a strategic market for us. Today, AWPs represent around 15% of our global market.” The company is an IPAF member and exhibited at the recent APEX show in Maastricht.

As a separate division, Sensing will be responsible for its own product development and marketing strategy, and not just research and development, said Scapin.

The company also produces AWP control systems, which now encompass 32-bit microprocessors, to allow the support of more data collection and transmission.

COBO’s other divisions include Electromechanical (lighting), Mechanical (seats), Systems, Instrument clusters, Connectivity (bluetooth, telematics) and Power Electronics.
