HSS wins contract with Gatwick Airport
10 April 2012
HSS Hire has won a contract with London's Gatwick Airport to supply all tools and equipment used on the airport, covering not just equipment used by the airport operator but also by contractors working on the site.
HSS said the contract will offer one point of contact and a 24 hour service to any and all onsite contractors at the airport. Gatwick will also use HSS' online equipment management system, HSS LiveHire, to manage its rentals.
The contract is the latest example of a trend towards rental contracts being negotiated with the ultimate clients rather than the main contractor on a site or multiple sub-contractors. Previous examples of this in the UK have included rental contracts with utility contractors and supermarket chains.
Liz Townsend, head of procurement at Gatwick, said the contract would help it continue to improve the airport in the most sustainable way; "All of our suppliers have a big part to play in this and the innovative equipment solution offered by HSS is another positive step forward in our relentless drive for efficiency, quality and safety".
HSS chief executive Chris Davies, said the partnership would provide Gatwick with more transparency and operational efficiency that ever before; "We also have a good understanding of - and ability to respond to - the unique working environment of the airport, so we are better equipped to deliver against their particular service level requirements".
