Ammann starts production of ARX rollers

09 August 2012

Ammann has started production of its new ARX range of 1.5 to 4.8 tonne tandem rollers. The range of double vibratory compactors was previewed at Intermat and comprises 13 models powered by Yanmar diesel engines, which meet exhaust emission legislation in Europe and the US.

The company says the rollers' hydraulic system has been improved, which has improved efficiency in the powertrain and allows the engine to be run at a lower speed. This cuts fuel consumption and also reduces noise from the machines.

Within the range, the ARX 12 and ARX 20 feature drums that are only supported on one side, which allows them to be driven right up alongside walls or high curbs. Other variants in the range include the ARX 36, ARX 40 and ARX 45, which offer two vibration amplitudes and two frequencies - features that Amman says are unique in the sub- 5 tonne class.

Amman says that across the range its angled drum supports and sliding seat give the driver an excellent view of the compaction area. The operator's platform is also isolated from the drums' vibration, while the controls have been simplified with a clear control panel and multi-function drive lever.

When it comes to transportation, the Ammann Traction Control (ATC) system has been designed to stop the front drum from spinning against the loading ramp of a trailer, and there are four lash rings to secure the rollers.
