Kennards Hire makes acquisition in New Zealand

Kennards Hire is continuing its expansion in New Zealand with the acquisition of Kiwi Hire Group, marking its first branch in the Taranaki region.

Founded in 2016 by the Potter family, Kiwi Hire Group provides specialist equipment to businesses, construction professionals, and DIY customers.

The New Plymouth branch will offer a wide range of high-quality equipment hire products and services, with access to specialty branches in the region, all made easier through Kennards Hire’s online booking platform.

The acquisition sees the Kiwi Hire Group team, led by husband-and-wife duo Brad and Christine Potter, join Kennards Hire, with the Potters continuing to manage the New Plymouth branch.

Brad Potter, branch manager, Kennards Hire New Plymouth, said, “Through this acquisition, our goal is to ensure that our customers, and staff, continue to be well looked after. Kennards Hire is a family-owned business with the same values as Kiwi Hire Group – and that has made all the difference.

“Our combined expertise and expanded range of quality equipment will allow us to serve the community for many more years.”

Tom Kimber, general manager of Kennards Hire New Zealand, added, “Following recent openings in Taupo and Napier, this location establishes a key presence on the west coast of the North Island. It enhances connectivity between regional centres, enabling us to better support local businesses and communities.”

Kimber added that the company is “proud to continue” the family legacy and “bring our shared values to the New Plymouth community.”

Kennards Hire New Plymouth is also committed to community engagement. In partnership with KidsCan, New Zealand’s leading charity supporting children affected by poverty, the branch will support local schools through the KidsCan School Buddy Programme.
