Speedy launches virtual net-zero event
21 November 2023
Speedy Hire is to hold its first virtual net zero conference on November 29.
Speedy said the inaugural Speedy Live Net Zero 23 conference will explore the issues and opportunities for the construction industry and aims to “inspire action to reach net zero.”
Amelia Woodley, ESG director for Speedy will discuss how the company, which has set a target to become net zero by 2040, will enable customers to meet sustainability targets.
Meanwhile, Mike Barry, former director of sustainable business at M&S, and Andy Connor, innovation and supply chain director, Speedy Hire, will also take part in keynote addresses.
Woodly and Connor will also take part panel discussion on the hire sectors position on net-zero, where they will be joined by Dr James Cadman, head of carbon, Action Sustainability and Matt Sexton, chief transformation officer, Futerra.
Following the the conference, which will be hosted by Olympic gold medallist Sam Quek, Speedy will open its fourth sustainable service centre; London Gateway, in Basildon on November 30. Speedy said the the “state-of-the-art modern workplace environment” has been strategically selected to strengthen its National Service Centre network, enabling the company to service London customers with its fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles supported by on-site charging facilities.
The opening of the facility comes as Speedy accelerates its own path towards a net-zero future. Earlier this year its near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets received approval from the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi), while its net-zero science-based to achieve the 2040 date was also verified.
The targets outline a 50% reduction in carbon emissions of its vehicle fleet and property estate and as well as its long-term goal to reduce carbon emissions by at least 90% across its vehicle fleet, property estate and supply to achieve Net-Zero by 2040.
