GGR’s sustainability focus

UK Lifting solutions specialist GGR has introduced Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as an alternative to mineral diesel across its machinery fleet, as it continues to add low emissions equipment to its fleet.

Founded by Graeme and Gill Riley in 1995, GGR began as a glass lifting equipment dealer but has broadened its offer to include glass reinforced concrete (GRC) lifting solutions, stone lifters, spider cranes, crawler cranes and telehandlers.

With most of its portfolio now available to the rental market, the company is also a dealer for key products including UNIC cranes, for which it has exclusive distribution rights in Europe.

Promoting its adoption of HVO during an industry Open Day at its Haddenham (Buckinghamshire) facility on 22 July, GGR said the introduction of HVO marked a key step in its strategy to provide sustainable and efficient lifting solutions.

Supplied by GBF Ltd, the HVO fuel - called GREEND+, is described as “a drop-in replacement fuel” that reduces nitrogen oxide by up to 30, particulates by up to 85% and greenhouse gases by up to 90%. It can be mixed in any quantity with other diesels.

Roger Millar, Operations Director at GGR Group, said, “With the UK Government pledging to reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% by 2050, the need for sustainable fuels has never been greater, particularly on construction sites.

“GGR Group is constantly striving to deliver the most innovative and sustainable lifting solutions to the construction industry and the introduction of HVO fuel means we can now offer a machinery fleet that supports this initiative.”

GGR’s Open Day marked the unveiling of a raft of new equipment. This included rental articulated crawler cranes such as the TMC 25 Electric - a battery powered crane with 2.5t capacity, maximum hook height of 10.4m (15.65m with jib), working radius 8.43m (12.85m with jib), continuous 360 degree rotation and multi-functional radio remote control.

The many new products being showcased also included Stage V telehandlers including the F6.26 Electric Telehandler 100 % electric, offering up to six hours of run time, opportunity charging and a maximum capacity of 2.6t, and a maximum working height of 4.9m.

The open day welcomed 300 visitors.

Also new was a range of Stage V mini crawler cranes such as the MCC500D Capacity: 5.0t x 2.1m; pick & carry capacity - 2.0t, maximum lifting height: 16.5m and maximum working radius: 14.53m.

Gill Riley, Managing Director of GGR Group, described the open day, which welcomed over 300 visitors, as “a fantastic taste of normality” after a challenging 18 months for the sector.

The event provided GGR with “the opportunity to showcase some of the latest, innovative additions to our range, alongside taking a wider look at upcoming trends and opportunities for the industry at large,” she said.
