New leadership for Terex and Genie
18 October 2023
John Garrison, Chairman and CEO of Terex, is to retire at the end of this year and will be succeeded by Simon Meester, the current president of Terex Aerial Work Platforms, which includes Genie and Terex Utilities.
Joshua Gross, Genie’s Vice President of Global Strategy and Product Management, will be promoted to President of Genie.
The changes will be effective from 1 January, with Garrison continuing as a consultant for Terex until 30 June next year.
In an additional change, David Sachs, lead independent director of the Terex Board will become Non-Executive Chairman of the Board.
Simon Meester, who is also set to join the company’s board in January, has been President of Terex AWP since May this year, following his appointment as President of Genie in August 2021. Previously, he was Chief Operating Officer of Genie and joined Terex in 2018 as Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing Administration for Genie.
Prior to joining Terex, Meester was VP and General Manager of the Industrial Control Division at Eaton Corporation and spent 14 years in progressively senior roles at Caterpillar.
Successful career
Garrison described leading Terex as the highlight of his career. “Terex is in as strong a position as it has ever been in and now is the right time to begin the transition to Terex’s next leader.
“I have had the privilege of working closely with Simon for a number of years and he has proven to be a global, strategic thinker with a natural ability to lead teams and drive results.”
Sachs thanked Garrison for his leadership and service to Terex. “Since his appointment as CEO, he has been instrumental in transforming our company into the Terex of today which comprises a very strong portfolio of market leading businesses.
“Under his leadership, Terex has experienced remarkable success and remains well positioned for continued growth. The Board is confident that Simon is the right choice to lead Terex in its next phase of growth and value creation for our shareholders.”
Meester added that the company is in a great position for the future with strong foundations and he would work closely with Garrison and Gross to ensure a seamless transition.
Gross commented, “I look forward to working alongside Simon and our leadership team as we continue to provide our customers with industry leading products and services.”
