The value was stated at more than US$800 million, with the scheme spanning 715,000 sq ft (66,426m2).

It will be the second centre in Alabama for Meta; the parent company of Facebook. The company has already opened a 3.5 million sq ft (325,160m2) campus about 190 miles (306km) north of Montgomery, in Huntsville, Alabama.

Hensel Phelps said the construction project will generate more than 1,000 jobs at peak.

The building will be designed and constructed to achieve LEED Gold and supported by 100% renewable energy.

Scheduled for completion in 2026, Hensel Phelps said the Montgomery facility will become Meta’s 24th data centre worldwide and 20th in the US.
