French rental association DLR to leave X
23 January 2025
French rental association DLR has announced that it is to leave X (formerly known as Twitter), citing “a series of actions and statements” made by its owner Elon Musk.
While the association didn’t specify what actions it was referring to, it said that the recent evolution of X’s environment no longer fully meets the expectations of its members and partners in terms of moderation and the quality of exchanges.
It added that its commitment to “fundamental values such as loyalty, mutual respect, and communication free from defamation or the malicious dissemination of false information” was also behind the decision.
A statement from DLR said, “As a federation, we have always placed constructive and respectful interactions at the heart of our mission. This decision will allow us to focus our efforts on channels and initiatives that better reflect these commitments.
“We remain dedicated to supporting companies in our sector and will continue to engage with them through our other communication channels, as well as during the many events and meetings we organise each year.”
Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, and has since rebranded the social media platform. He has recently come under critisism for a perceived gesture at a rally for newly inaguarated president Trump.
Responding to the critisicm on X, Musk said, “Frankly, they need better dirty tricks.” He was attending the inaugaration as a representative of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a newly created department that aims to cut federal spend.
