JLG introduces new compact electric boom at Bauma

JLG Industries is unveiling a new articulated electric boom lift, the EC450AJ Compact, at Bauma.

Ideal for congested job sites, the new compact offering, which builds on the existing EC450AL boom, is designed to offer a robust performance in confined spaces, and is lightweight and compact for easy transport and maneuverability.

The machine was designed in Europe and is manufactured at JLG’s Hinowa facility in Italy.

It is equipped with 10kWh lithium ion-phosphate (LFP) batteries as standard, with an option to extend to 20kWh for extended run times. The batteries are tested to last the machine’s lifetime and have full warranty support, said the manufacturer.

Recharging is quick and easy using the standard 230VAC 1-phase on-board battery charger and optional 400VAC 3-phase charger. When both charger options are fitted, charging times are further reduced. The lithium batteries are also equipped with integrated heaters to enable charging and efficient operation in sub-zero temperatures.

Lightweight and compact

At 2m wide, the new model offers true zero tail swing and as one of the lightest models in its class, it is flexible and inexpensive to transport on a standard truck bed – two units can fit on to a low-bed trailer.

To support visibility in low-light conditions, the EC450AJ Compact has an optional lighting system that illuminates the floor around the machine and includes an illuminated platform control panel. These features assist operators when loading, unloading and navigating obstacles in dimly lit environments.

For rough terrain performance the lift has a 4WD AC electric drive system and oscillating axle. It also has two-wheel steering at the front axle and can operate on slopes up to 45% for site transportation and 5° when elevated.

Additional features include a 355° turntable rotation, non-marking, non-directional rough terrain foam-filled tires as standard, and 250kg platform capacity.

The new three-entry platform gives operators more flexibility on the job site. The platform can be removed without touching the control column, which, says the company, ignificantly reduces repair times. JLG’s Skyline enhanced operator and control panel protection and ClearSky SmartFleet telematics are also included as standard.

“We are delighted to present the EC450AJ Compact at Bauma this year as it demonstrates how we’re constantly assessing and developing new products to match the needs of an evolving market,” said Nicola Sacchet, EMEAI Product Manager for Boom, Scissor and Vertical Products.

“We have enhanced this compact and lightweight model with rough-terrain capabilities and advanced technology and created a valuable solution for zero-emission and noise-controlled job sites.”
