10 diesel-powered machines that launched at Bauma

Nearly half a million visitors attended construction trade show Bauma last month, while 3,200 exhibitors brought an array of construction products to the event.

Electric machinery was, as expected, high on the agenda for many, with OEM’s keen to highlight the latest developments in environmentally friendly construction equipment.

However, Bauma also had plenty of diesel-powered launches from manufacturers on show.

From pavers to excavators, compact loaders to drilling equipment, here are 10 diesel-powered machines that received a debut at Bauma.

Bobcat’s new range of compact loaders

While not strictly one machine, US manufacturer Bobcat unveiled additions to its range of compact loaders at Bauma when it exhibited the S86 and T86 loaders respectively.

Described by Bobcat as the most powerful compact loaders it has ever built, both come equipped with a Stage V compliant 3.4 litre Bobcat engine.

EW100 wheeled excavator from Wacker Neuson

Part of the diesel-powered range of construction equipment on show from Wacker Neuson included the EW100 wheeled excavator, which is powered by a Perkins 904J-E36TA diesel engine.

The 10 tonne machine is said to improve operator safety through a rear view camera and, according to Wacker Neuson, can carry out tasks that would usually require 14 tonne machines thanks to its traction hydraulics and high basic working capacity.

‘World’s largest’ directional drill from Ditch Witch

Equipped with a Stage V Cummins engine, the AT120 all terrain directional drill from Ditch Witch is described by the company as the largest available on the market.

The drill, which also comes with 533.8 kN of thrust and pullback and 21,015 Nm of rotational torque, has been developed for use in pipeline, oil field, gas, sewer and water works.

Zoomlion ZT58J Ultra telescopic boom lift

A number of diesel-powered MEWPS were on show at Bauma, including the ZT58J Ultra telescopic boom lift from Zoomlion.

The four-wheel-drive machine has a dual platform capacity of 300kg unrestricted and 454kg restricted and four-wheel-drive unit.

Doosan’s 100 tonne crawler excavator

Another machine that is powered by a Perkins engine is the DX1000LC-7 100 tonne crawler excavator from Doosan.

The company’s largest excavator to date allows operators to switch between Boom or Swing, which is said to enable the machine to match the application it is working on.

744 P-tier wheeled loader from John Deere

Part of a line-up of large wheeled loaders, John Deere unveiled the 744 P-tier at Bauma, alongside three other machines.

With a PowerTech PSS 6090 Stage V engine that delivers net power of 236kW, the company says the 744 P-Tier offers advanced productivity features, increased job-site reliability, operator comfort, and enhanced serviceability.

Largest spider lift from Leguan

Specially designed for challenging terrains, the 22.5m working height Leguan 225 has a maximum lift capacity of 250kg and outreach of up to 11.2m.

Powered by a 21 hp Kubota diesel engine and 230 V electric motor, the machine is said to be suited to property maintenance, installation work, construction and rentals.

Hitachi’s ZX400MC-7 multi-carrier excavator

Developed alongside German company KTEG, the ZX400MC-7 multi-carrier excavator from Hitachi is part of the company’s 40 tonne medium weight class.

As well as a Stage V compliant engine, the ZX400MC-7 is equipped with Zaxis-technology and four attachments that, according to Hitachi, can carry out tasks of several onsite machines.

Mini road paver from Vögele

From the Wirtgen Group stand, manufacturer Vögele exhibited the Mini 500 road paver to visitors.

Available in both diesel or battery-electric, the machine, which is expected to be made available commercially next year, comes with a standard screed working width of 0.80m, which can be increased to 1.35m hydraulically.

Representing Caterpillar at the latest instalment of Bauma was its German dealer Zeppelin, who showed an array of diesel-powered machinery, including the Cat 906 wheel loader.

The machine features the new Cat C2.8 engine and, alongside the 907, and 908 wheel loaders, comes with Cat technologies that improves operator experience and provides larger wheel loader model comfort on a smaller platform.

The new engine is said to deliver the same 55.7kW gross power as the previous engine with 13% more torque.
