Wirtgen upgrades F-Series milling machine
18 December 2023
German OEM Wirtgen has launched a new version of its F-Series milling machine, combining new features for additional sustainability and productivity.
The W 220 XFi has an automatic Mill Assist mode, which optimises milling strategy and operating costs.
The technology increases milling performance while reducing diesel and water consumption, as well as pick wear.
Wirtgen says the system is particularly effective at lower speed ranges, where noise emissions are also significantly reduced.
Mill Assist has three modes: ’ECO’, Performance Optimised’ and ‘Milling Pattern Quality’.
Selecting Milling Pattern Quality mode allows operators to adjust the pattern in increments from coarse to very fine.
Power and sustainability
The W 220 FXi is powered by an 18 litre John Deere JD18L engine, which delivers a maximum 627kW of power at engine speeds of 1500rpm.
The engine has been designed to deliver high torque under a range of load conditions, and the W 220 FXi utilises this power at low rpm, via a dual-shift transmission.
Along with Mill Assist, technology on board the new machine includes an upgraded Wirtgen Group Performance Tracker Milling system.
The tech now includes a CO2 emissions display, with information available on current and specific carbon emissions in relation to milling mass.
With the new system, reports can be produced that calculate carbon emissions throughout a project and compare emissions across multiple projects.
