Brazil’s rental industry makes plea on Covid

Brazilian rental association ALEC and 12 other rental and construction organisations have called on federal, state and municipal authorities in the country to act on the Covid-19 crisis.

“The population needs leadership, unity and trust. It is essential that the economy returns to normal and for this the issue of health is a priority”, said the statement.

“Brazilians are entitled to the vaccine and want to return to work. All the entities that signed this manifesto are willing to contribute, remembering that our sector comprises more than 20,000 rental companies serving construction, generating around 70,000 jobs.”

The organisations said the country was facing an “unprecedented crisis. The Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches must exercise their functions in a non-partisan way, always aiming in the first place for the wellbeing of the population.

“For us to continue to contribute to the Brazilian economy, it is essential to have confidence, not only us, but the whole country. The moment demands leadership, mobilisation, cooperation and action.”

The statement follows a similar call to action issued by Sobratema and major construction industry organisations in the second week of January.
