‘Challenging’ project completed on Indonesia metro line

PT BAUER Pratama Indonesia, the Indonesian subsidiary of BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH, was commissioned to manufacture the retaining walls for the basement in Kota Station — the final section of the current construction phase II of the south-north MRT line in Jakarta.

PT BAUER Pratama Indonesia said that one of the particular challenges of this project was that the work had to be carried out on a narrow plot of land between two busy main streets and in the middle of historic buildings.

In addition, two bus lanes had to be kept open for traffic during the entire construction period, so that work could only be carried out on one side of the station at a time.

A total of 136 diaphragm wall elements with a thickness of 1,200 mm or 1,400 mm were manufactured over a length of 867 m. Due to the demanding subsoil, consisting of soft to medium-firm clay at a depth of 7 m to 8 m, the panels were installed between 33 m and 43 m deep. The work was carried out by a BAUER GB 50 hydraulic grab and a BAUER MC 86 duty cycle crane.

The work started in December 2022 and was successfully completed in June 2023. The sequence of work had to be strictly adhered to throughout the entire execution period in order not to endanger the planned production of the reinforcement cages.

The special location in the middle of listed buildings also required the most careful and vibration-free work possible in a very small space. Since the construction work was carried out in the historic city center of Batavia, there were also occasional discoveries of ceramics, wooden poles and shells.
