Four consortiums have submitted statements of qualifications for the US$ 5.25 billion contract to upgrade the Panama Canal. The short-listed bidders are Consorcio C.A.N.A.L., led by ACS and including contractors Acciona, FCC, Hochtief and ICA, with designers Sener, Haskoning, and Mott Macdonald.

Consorcio Atlántico-Pacífico de Panamá is led by Bouygues, with the other contractors being Vinci, Bilfinger Berger, Camargo Corrêa, Andrade Gutierrez, Queiroz Galvao, and Bardella. The design partner is Aecon.

The third consortium, Consortium Bechtel, Taisei, Mitsubishi is named after its three contracting partners, and leader Bechtel will be the designer.

Consortium Grupo Unidos por el Canal is led by Sacyr, with contracting partners Impregilo, Jan de Nul and Constructora Urbana. Design will be handled by Montgomery Watson Harza, Tetra Tech and IV-Groep.
