Kranpunkten expands green rental fleet

Sweden-based rental company Kranpunkten has invested in over 200 new machines as part of its green strategy. The fleet expansion includes a range of electric and hybrid boom and scissor lifts, as well as truck-mounted aerial working platforms and telescopic handlers. Machines from manufacturers Genie, NiftyLift, JLG, Magni and Ruthmann are among the brands making up the equipment investment.

According to Kranpunkten, the demand for lifting equipment in the country’s construction industry had been stable over the past 12 months, despite the impact of Coronavirus. It said that continued financial stability had provided “very favourable” conditions for it to move forward with its equipment fleet investment.

Rikard Jönsson, Purchasing Manager at Kranpunkten, said, “It is extra gratifying that we can continue according to plan despite the pandemic and maintain a strong focus on purchasing machines that create as low an environmental impact as possible.

“Most of the machines are powered by electricity or are hybrids. Of those that are only available with internal combustion engines, the majority are of emission standard Euro 6 and will be refueled with the fossil-free diesel HVO100. The first deliveries are already in place and the rest will continue to arrive during the first six months of 2021.”

In addition to reducing emissions and waste, Kranpunkten’s green strategy includes plans to phase out substances that are hazardous to both the environment and people’s health. The strategy, which was designed with the aim of making the company “completely climate-neutral”, will also see the firm work towards reducing its energy consumption.

Jönsson said, “How fast the conversion can take place also depends on the pace at which society changes and new technology becomes available. Our customers’ environmental and business demands on us become demands on our machine suppliers.

“That is why we have a close dialogue with a few carefully selected machine suppliers who share our values and together we work for more environmentally sustainable machines.”
