Adapteo cyber-attack highlights ongoing risks

Nordic accommodation rental company Adapteo has confirmed it was the target of a cybersecurity attack last week. The extent of the breach is not yet clear.

The attack occurred on Friday 3 September and affected the company’s servers and core business applications.

Adapteo said via a statement that it was “conducting a thorough investigation with the support of third-party cyber security experts to determine what data has been exposed and what measures need to be taken to protect the company’s data and prevent further harm.”

Adapteo confirmed it had reported the potential GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) breach to the relevant supervisory authority, in line with relevant data protection legislation, as well as to the Swedish Police.

In January hydraulic lifting, loading and handling specialist Palfinger experienced a severe cybersecurity attack that caused a week-long cessation of activity at its factories and assembly locations across Europe, North America, South America and Asia.

Adapteo, which demerged from Finland headquartered Cramo in 2019, is a flexible real estate provider listed on Nasdaq Stockholm and operating in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, and The Netherlands. In 2020, its net sales were EUR 231 million.
