US equipment manufacturer Bandit Industries has launched a beltless small stump grinder.

The new Model 2250XP self-propelled stump grinder uses a heavy-duty hydrostatic motor to power its 20-inch (51 cm) diameter cutter wheel. The hydrostatic motor eliminates the need for a clutch, jackshaft, drive belt and belt tensioning system, saving on maintenance time.

A 27-horsepower gas engine powers the new Bandit stump grinder. The 40 CC hydrostatic motor uses an oversize bearing to manage the side-load and shock loads associated with stump grinding.

The small stump grinder weighs in at 1500 lbs (680 kg). Its low weight and large flotation tires mean that the equipment can travel across lawns without leaving damage. The grinder offers a 50-inch (127 cm) swing arc with a 14-inch (35.5 cm) cutting depth.

The stump grinder has been designed with the rental industry in mind. "With no belts or bearings to replace it's a very low maintenance machine. That's really going to make a difference on the monthly balance sheet because it'll spend more time making money while costing a lot less to maintain," said Jason Morey, small equipment sales manager for Bandit Industries.

As with other Bandit stump grinders, the Model 2250XP is manufactured primarily by hand, using all-steel construction.
