Bomag updates its BMP 8500 compactor
22 February 2024
Bomag has launched an updated version of its BMP 8500 multi-purpose compactor, equipped with a Stage V Kubota engine and an improved radio remote control system.
The new 8500 has a more modern body styling, but shares many of the key dimensions and weights of the previous model, with an operating weight of 1595kg, a compaction width of 850mm, a 1897mm length and 1333mm height.
Bomag is using radio operation “due to its proven superior stability over infrared systems” and there is a claimed “100% connection” between the remote control and the machine, meaning that multiple rollers can be operated simultaneously without the need to adjust the individual radio frequencies.
The OEM said new remote control units can quickly be paired with the roller without special knowledge or tools; “After replacement, the remote control and machine are immediately and securely reconnected, allowing compaction work to continue.”
The controller has two batteries, providing a continuous running time of 35 to 40 hours. The charge status is displayed on the remote control’s screen.
Buyers can also opt to buy a charger - integrated into the roller’s storage compartment - to top up the second battery while the machine operates.
The BMP 8500 is designed for work in confined areas such as trench and pipeline construction, as well as for landscaping, compacting backfill and foundation work. Versatility is enhanced by having a variable compaction width from 610mm to 850mm.
Bomag said all components have been developed with a focus on low maintenance and reliability. For example, “Encasing the exciter housing prevents water and dirt from entering, which increases the machine’s operational reliability. The trench roller’s articulated joint requires no grease nipples, further reducing maintenance requirements.”
The integrated Bomag Operator Safety System (BOSS) automatically shuts down the machine if it is too close to the operator, and operators are updated on compaction progress via the Bomag Economizer, which identifies soft spots.
