Civil engineer adds 37 t JCB excavator to fleet

07 October 2015

A leading civil engineering firm in Manchester, UK, has welcomed the arrival of a brand new JCB JS370 to a housebuilding development on the historic Woodford Aerodrome site.

Chandos Civil Engineering placed the very first order for JCB’s largest tracked excavator model – the 37-tonne JS370LC – with dealer Gunn JCB and has put the machine straight to work on the groundworks phase of a 950 home luxury development on the outskirts of Manchester.

Chandos won the contract to provide drainage and over 5 km of road construction on the new housing development set to become the flagship site for national house builder, Redrow.

The new JS370 joins nearly 20 other JCB machines in the Chandos fleet, including JS130 and JS220 excavators and the newly introduced JCB site dumpers.

The 37 t excavator has already proved its worth, successfully completing tougher groundworks tasks than competitive models could manage.

Chandos civil engineering director, Danny Molloy said: “We realised we needed a larger excavator than our traditional 22 t models as the volume of drainage work has increased significantly as the company has grown.

“We looked at several options but the JCB came out on top. Not only was the service excellent throughout the process but the machine stood out too. On one application we needed to dig through rock to install drainage pipes and no other excavator could touch it. But the JCB excavator managed with no problems.

“We’ve been impressed with performance, fuel efficiency and operator comfort on the JS370 and the service from Gunn JCB is always first class.”

The 37 t JCB JS370 is engineered with exceptional strength, productivity, efficiency, comfort, safety and ease of maintenance. Powered by a Tier 4i Isuzu 210 kW engine, it delivers 25% more power than its predecessor and 27% more torque.

Formed in 2002, Chandos has grown from a one machine operation to a turnover in excess of £15 million (€21 million) and now has over 200 employees. It offers a diverse range of services including civil engineering, ground works, remediation and house building.
