ERA’s priorities for 2025

28 January 2025

The European Rental Association (ERA) focuses on key areas that will help the equipment rental industry address current challenges and prepare for the future.

These priorities aim to improve the industry’s environmental performance, address workforce needs, and embrace digital advancements in a structured and measured way.

Sustainability in focus

Sustainability continues to be a critical area for the rental industry. ERA will support rental companies in their efforts to reduce carbon emissions and transition to more sustainable energy solutions.

Rental companies play a vital role in lowering the environmental impact of equipment use. By fostering the adoption of sustainable practices, the association aims to support members in aligning with broader environmental expectations. ERA’s sustainability initiatives such as Carbon Reporting Guidance, Sustainability KPIs, and Handbook on Sustainability are listed here.

Addressing workforce challenges

The rental industry faces persistent employment gaps and skills shortages. To address these issues, ERA plans to promote the Attracting and Retaining People Report aimed at attracting and retaining a skilled workforce while encouraging greater diversity within the sector.

Additionally, the association will focus on assisting members to improve workplace safety practices to reduce incidents, ensuring safer working conditions across the industry. Communicating the benefits and career opportunities within the rental sector will also be an important part of this effort. Also, ERA is working on the OSH Project and the report will be published in 2025.

Digital transformation

Adopting digital technologies and AI is an important topic in the rental industry. ERA will monitor the best practices and assist members to be more aware of the means of digitalization for the rental business.

Through these priorities, ERA aims to provide a framework for rental companies to address emerging challenges and opportunities. The focus on sustainability, workforce development, financial stability, and digital transformation reflects the association’s commitment to supporting its members and ensuring the long-term viability of the industry.
