Heidelberg Cement expands Indian plants

18 February 2013

Heidelberg Cement has completed the expansion of its cement and grinding plants in central India. The investments in its clinker plant in Narsingarh, Madhya Pradesh and grinding plants in Imlai, Madhya Pradesh and Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh totalled € 216 million (US$ 290 million).

Production capacity at the Narsingarh clinker plant has been increased from 1.2 to 3.1 million tonnes per year. The improvements include a 20 km long overland conveyor belt, believed to be the longest in India, to transport limestone from a quarry to the clinker plant.

Grinding capacity at the Imlai plant has been increased from 1 to 2 million tonnes per year and from 0.8 to 2.7 million tonnes per year at the Jhansi plant. Both facilities are fed with clinker from Narsingarh.

Heidelberg cement said that the investment in these facilities had taken its annual cement production in India from 3.1 to 6.0 million tonnes.
