Instagrid expands portable power range
08 August 2024
German battery storage manufacturer Instagrid has added to its range of portable power solutions with the launch of Instagrid LINK.
The company said that the modular power distributor enables users to both connect multiple power sources together and switch between them, extending the overall capacity on the process.
When paired with its Instagrid ONE product, a 2.1 kWh rated energy capacity unit launched in 2021, Instagrid said LINK allows for “seamless switching” and increased overall capacity and runtime.
Up to three portable power units can be connected simultaneously to Instagrid LINK, enabling up to three times total energy capacity. When one unit runs out LINK automatically switches to the next available unit.
The company, which recently became a Certified B Corporation, said that when hot swapping batteries (swapping without shutting the power off) as the units recharge, an “effectively unlimited supply of power” is provided.
Available in three socket configurations (EU, CH and UK), it can be used with any combination of 230V AC power supplies, while users can combine different products from different manufacturers.
Instagrid LINK can also be used to connect a portable battery-based power supply to mains power to set up a mission-critical power supply. In the case of power outage, it switches from the mains power to the portable power supply in under 20ms.
Sebastian Berning, co-CEO and co-founder, said, “After innovating the world’s most advanced professional battery power supplies with unconstrained, grid-like power, we are now also taking the distribution of mobile power to the next level.
“Instagrid LINK is a smart, first-of-a-kind product that makes it easy for anyone to increase capacity for extended runtimes and seamlessly switch between different power sources. Additionally, it enhances user safety to the highest standards, with its three output sockets individually protected by RCDs.”
His fellow co-CEO and co-founder Andreas Sedlmayr added that the unit offers a “transformative solution for customers seeking clean, mobile, high-performance power with increased runtime requirements.”
He said, “It combines diverse user needs from construction, events, film, and media into one compact and well-designed product. Our R&D and Sales teams have developed this product in collaboration with customers on-site. Hence Instagrid LINK directly addresses user demands, improves their working efficiency and opens up entirely new applications and ways of working.”
Founded in 2018, Instagrid is the 13th fastest growing company in Europe, according to the FT 1000 for 2024. Speaking to IRN earlier this year, Andreas Sedlmayr said the company is aiming to “free the world from combustion engines.”
