Nixon Hire adds solar lighting towers

UK-based rental company Nixon Hire has expanded its fleet with the addition of emission-free lighting towers.

One of Nixon Hire's new ST-9 lighting towers Nixon Hire’s new ST-9 lighting towers are part of the company’s Renewables division fleet.

The new ST-9 lighting tower units, supplied by MHM Plant, each have a bank of LED lamps on a 9 metre tall mast and can light an area of up to 2,400m2.

While the number of units and the value of the investment was not disclosed, Nick Hibbard, UK division manager for Renewables at Nixon Hire said, “The ST-9 is the latest sustainable product to be added to our hire-fleet.

“With our drive towards championing zero emission equipment, this lighting set will complement all of our current battery, hybrid and solar powered machinery.”

Manufactured in Italy for UK-based MHM Plant, each ST-9 lighting tower is powered by four LG360 solar panels and an AGM sealed self-charging battery.

This means the model provides silent operation and can be used in noise sensitive areas.

Nixon added, “To ensure that the lights are only operating when necessary, the ST-9 is equipped with a ‘Dusk ‘til Dawn Auto Start/Stop Sensor’.”

The new lighting units will join around 60 low-carbon Solar pods as part of the equipment fleet operated by Nixon’s Renewables Division, which was established in early 2019 and promoted with its ’20 by 20’ low carbon initiative.

According to Nixon, its investment in more environmentally friendly equipment has already had an impact.

Last year one Nixon’s clients saved almost 130 tonnes of carbon emissions through the 20 by 20 initiative in just four weeks by using the rental company’s Solar Pods on its site.
