Unique truck scissor for tunnels from Safi

Safi Group has lunched the Tunnel Maintenance Scissor Lift  - a unique truck mounted design based on a request from a road and tunnel services company in the EU.

The new model from the Italy-based manufacturer is designed to be quick, easy-to-use and safe for work in road tunnels. It can reach heights of 10m with 4000kg capacity in the basket, and can be used with or without the use of outriggers.

A Tunnel Mode option allows the truck to be moved inside the tunnel from the basket, with a reduced speed, which the company says allows flexibility of movements during tunnel maintenance operation on an inclination of up to 7°.

A Safi spokesperson said, “Highway maintenance vehicles are used across the world every single day for a wide range of tasks. As they are frequently used on busy roads, the danger presented when these vehicles are in use is considerably increased.

“With this in mind it is important that all highway maintenance vehicles are designed, manufactured to suite a particular needs to do the job in a very quick way, in addition highway road tunnels and intercity vehicle underpasses are vital components of an essential busy highways network. Keeping them function and clean is essential.”

All controls for the Tunnel Maintenance Scissor are operated in the vehicle’s cab and in the basket. The boom can either be powered by the vehicle’s engine or on electruc mode via a battery installed on the vehicle, depending on CO2 emission requirements. 

The first unit has been mounted on a Mercedes truck but it could also be mounted on Iveco, Maxus, Isuzu or VW vehicles.

The spokesperon added, “These kind of scissor lift tunnels vehicles are a must for road tunnels and underpasses which require specific and continuous maintenance work on lights, information boards and fans, along with painting or cleaning.

“This is an easy way to change damaged safety lights or signals inside the tunnels within a very short time, to ensure the drivers using the tunnels are safe.”
