US software firm uses AI to improve rental fleet monitoring

US-based rental inspection software provider Record360 has introduced AI Blur Detection, a feature that enhances its mobile-based inspection and workflow platform for rental companies’ asset conditioning reporting.

The first of what Record360 says will be many features in its upcoming AI-powered suite, the new AI Blur Detection feature is designed to help users avoid blurry photos in real-time, ensuring only high-quality images make it to their inspection.

“Our new AI Blur Detection feature is an absolute game changer for our customers,” said Kat Gillis, general manager, Record360, which was acquired by Point of Rental in February this year.

“We spoke to dozens of customers to understand what features would be most impactful in their business today,” said Gillis. “Our bespoke blur technology sets a new level of quality and efficiency for inspections, bringing a whole new standard of innovation to our industry.”

Utilizing the AI Blur Detection tool, the user is able to reliably capture sharp photos. The feature indicates when a user is about to take a blurry photo, providing them with real-time feedback. Additionally, inspectors are able to review blurry photos from their media gallery, either replacing or deleting them.

The AI Blur Detection feature is also designed to ensure only high-quality images are included in inspection reports, giving managers peace of mind that through accurate documentation they can make informed decisions.

“Our team developed this feature entirely in-house to address a critical customer need for high-quality images,” said Haiz Oppenheimer, director of engineering, Record360. “Utilizing our custom-developed AI model and deploying it on edge devices, allows for on-device inference, significantly enhancing customer privacy by eliminating the need for data to be sent to third-party servers.”

The new Blur Detection feature is currently available across all of their applications (iOS, Android and web). Additional AI features will be introduced throughout the year.
