11 September 2023
A new film has been released by EDF Energy about the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station construction project. It shows the latest progress made at the site in Somerset, UK.
The video highlights the engineering feat of lifting a 245 tonne steel dome to close the first reactor building, carried out using Sarens’ Big Carl super heavy lift ring crane. Around 10,000 workers are on site each day.
The video tour takes the viewer several miles under the seabed to observe the final stages of the cooling water intakes. In addition, the video shows the construction of the turbine hall, which is a towering 50 metres tall and will house the world’s largest Arabelle turbine.
The installation of miles of cables, pipes, and tons of other equipment is also well underway. This project has resulted in more than GB£5 billion (US$6.2 billion) being spent with companies in the South West, with 3,700 British companies having contracts with the project.
