The latest TE 70 is Hilti's fifth generation 7 kg combihammer.

Hilti said its new fifth generation of its 7 kg class combihammers have improved productivity, durability and operator comfort.

The new TE 70 AVR follows on from four previous generations of 7 kg combihammers – the TE 72, TE 76 and two versions of the TE 70 – and offers increased performance, with 11.5 J of impact energy compared to 10.5 J on the previous model.

Operator comfort is improved, with the use of AVR (active vibration control) cutting triaxial vibration from 22 m/s² to 10 m/s². The weight of the unit rises from 7.9 kg to 8.3 kg.

Also being launched is a new, second generation version of the TE 80, which can be fitted with the AVR system for reduced vibration, now at 7.5 m/s².

Other new features of the TE 70 include an active torque control (ATC) system - also available on the TE 80 - which helps to minimize the risk of drill bit snagging.

One of the most important design changes is a new air cooling system that reduces the working temperature of the tool and cuts dust intake. Air inflow is now channeled from the grip area, through the motor, gearbox and piston before exiting behind the chuck. In the older models – and competitive tools, said Hilti – the air flowed from the tool base below the motor, increasing the risk of dust entering the system.

Hilti said locating the intake further away from the front of the tool, where dust is generated, ensures optimal cooling with the result that chuck temperature is reduced from 95°C to 85°C.

In addition, Hilti has made the slip clutch larger and more robust, and it is now directly coupled to the motor axis instead of through an intermediate gear.
