United purchases first Tadano boom for N.A. market
08 April 2025
United Rentals, the world’s largest equipment rental company, has become the first buyer of Tadano’s new AS-63HD boom lift geared toward the North American market. Tadano announced its entry into the North American MEWP market leading up to Bauma.
The AS-63HD, which made its global debut at Bauma this week, features a platform height of 62 ft 8 in (19.1 m) and a maximum horizontal outreach of 37 ft 4 in (11.4 m). Its four-section synchronized telescoping boom and crane-inspired mast ensure near-zero platform deflection, enhancing safety and performance, according to Tadano. The AS-63HD also features automatic 4-motion control and 360-degree continuous platform rotation.

“We are proud to be one of the first to integrate the Tadano AS-63HD into our fleet,” said Mike Durand, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of United Rentals. “This boom lift represents the future of high-reach access equipment, offering unprecedented load capacity and safety. We are committed to equipping our customers with the best solutions to increase jobsite efficiency and reduce downtime.”
With its massive platform, measuring 13 ft 9 in x 6 ft 4 in x 3 ft 7 in (4.2 x 1.94 x 1.1 m), the AS-63HD can handle up to 10 occupants or any mix of fewer occupants with heavy tools or materials within the capacity requirements.
“The high capacity and significant size of the platform does not have an extension like a scissor lift, meaning operators don’t have to carefully place materials in specific zones.” Tadano said. “That makes job planning simpler and safer and ultimately speeds up work.”
Powered by a 74.3-hp (55.4 kW) Kubota V3800 engine, the 4WD-unit with solid tires offers gradeability up to 40% with 5-degree tilt control and travel speeds up to 3 mph (4.8 km/h) to traverse job sites. With its combination of boom lift and scissor lift features, the AS-63HD works well on congested sites, such as industrial construction and infrastructure projects, to deliver high utilization and improve ROI.
“This lift isn’t just an incremental improvement — it’s a new way of working,” Tadano added. “Contractors can complete heavy-duty tasks with fewer machines, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. That’s why we believe it will make a significant impact on the North American market.”
United said that it is continuously expanding its fleet with cutting-edge equipment such as the Tadano AS-63HD in order to meet the evolving needs of its customers.
“United Rentals has always been at the forefront of delivering innovative solutions to its customers, and we are thrilled to support them with the AS-63HD,” said Dean Barley, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tadano America Corporation. “This boom lift sets a new benchmark for high-reach performance, and we are confident that it will provide unmatched safety, reliability, and efficiency for job sites across North America.”
Tadano said it looks forward to its partnership with United Rentals in delivering the AS-63HD to jobsites across North America. The lift is now available for rental and purchase.
