A leading Italian company specialising in demolition and infrastructure projects explains why Hitachi Premium Rental equipment is vital to its success

Established in 1963 in Turin, Perino Piero has grown under the leadership of the founder’s sons, Fabrizio and Giuliano, into a national player with a fleet of approximately 200 machines, consisting largely of Hitachi models.

Its diverse fleet includes both specialised demolition machinery and conventional construction equipment, ranging from mini and wheeled to large crawler excavators. Despite owning many earthmoving machines, the company utilises rental equipment for other projects.

“We still rely on rental to cover our specific needs on long-term construction sites. This way, we can always be efficient and have the correct machines on every job site,” explain Fabrizio and Giuliano Piero.

A loyal Hitachi customer

Hitachi Premium Rental equipment, provided by the local Hitachi dealer, Massucco T., is vital to Perino Piero’s operations. “For rental, we are sure to have the latest machines, optimally maintained, that guarantee high performance with fixed costs. The extensive fleet allows us to tackle every phase of construction sites.”

Perino Piero primarily rents crawler and wheeled excavators, particularly for infrastructure projects such as the Turin Metro extension and the Milan Malpensa International Airport railway link. “Large infrastructure projects often require similar machines on multiple fronts, making rental essential,” they add.

Key benefits of Hitachi Premium Rental include flexibility in fleet management and cost predictability.

“Knowing that we can count on a very large and diversified fleet allows us to schedule job sites more rationally,” they explain.

The operators’ familiarity with Hitachi machines further reduces training time and enhances safety.

Ownership vs. rental

While rental provides flexibility, Perino Piero continues to adopt a mixed strategy. Highly specialised equipment, such as a demolition excavator, is purchased to ensure long-term cost efficiency and availability. However, compact machines and medium-sized equipment are often rented for general use.

The company has a strong order book and is already planning for the next two years, and rental will continue to be an important part of their business strategy, as the Piero brothers explain: “We are continuing to grow both as part of our business philosophy and because we are constantly being called upon to do bigger and more complex jobs.

“So rental will definitely be one of the avenues that we will go down, as always, to address the needs of different construction sites that we work on all over the country.”
