Aerials boost gas mega project

ENKA is the largest construction company and the leading electricity provider in Turkey, with its power plants among Turkey’s earliest and largest private sector power projects, having been first installed in  2000.

In Kirklareli, the north-westernmost part of Turkey, set on the Black Sea coast, the company is working on a natural gas power plant construction project. It is expected to be completed in three to four years and is designed to improve efficiency and safety.

ENKA used a combined construction method of MEWPs and cranes. In the steel erection phase, the crane lifts the beams to the installation point, and XCMG’s XGS40E telescopic boom lift lifts the construction crew to the working area.

For single-piece, single-point installation work, two installers carry out joining, bolt tightening and welding work in the MEWP platform.

The coordinated operation of cranes and aerial platforms reduces required processes, improves operational efficiency, avoids the labour and material costs of scaffolding, and eliminates the risk of accidents associated with the erection and dismantling of scaffolding.

On the construction site, the numerous steel structures and the small internal construction space made the project even more challenging. The XGS32K and an XCMG XGA20ACE articulated boom lift played an important role in the project.

The XGS32K suited to relatively low heights and tight spaces and has a synchronized luffing boom, driven by a single cylinder. Configured with small flyi jib, the XGS32K has up and over cabilities to make the construction work quicker. It works in conjunction with the crane to complete the steel erection task in a confined space.

The XGA20ACE is equipped with an axle balancing system, which provides strong driving power and is suitable for indoor and outdoor road conditions. It has a 5m turning radius and adapts to operation in narrow spaces. In this project, the XGA20ACE was used to fix the plant’s outer wall structure, weld and install steel structures.
