Tadano launches MEWP line in North America

Tadano is entering the North American aerial platform market with a series of booms lifts for the US and Canada.

The announcement coincides with the company’s plans to launch one of the units of the eight-strong series at Bauma, taking place in Munich next month.

Speaking about the new series for North America, Erik Elzinga, Tadano Americas vice president of AWP business development for Pan-America operations, said, “Tadano’s growth in the Americas has been extraordinary over the last several years, and while our crane market share is very strong, we saw an opportunity to complement that success with additional product lines.”

“Tadano has a long history of aerial crawler work platform expertise in Japan,” Elzinga said. “The opportunity is to take our experience and apply it in the Americas.”

The introduction of the MEWP range to the US and Canada also follows Tadano’s acquisition of Japan-based self propelled crawler boom lift specialist Nagano Industry in December 2023, and most recently, Manitex International in January this year, which includes Oil & Steel, a producer of truck mounts and spider lifts in Italy.

Tadano said the combination of Tadano’s lifting expertise and Nagano’s crawler boom technology had resulted in the range of boom lifts with a traditional crawler chassis.

Machine availablity

“Now, we are bringing both our in-house innovations and Nagano’s technology to the market in a strategic way to drive continued growth,” Elzinga added.

Manufactured in Japan, the new MEWP line will be available in the US and Canada in the second half of 2025. Tadano will use its established sales and service network across the two countries to provide the same level of support offered to its crane customers.

Wheeled units

The eight new models range up to 20.9m platform height and include the heavy duty AS-63HD, on a wheeked chassis, which will be displayed at Bauma for the first time, and is one of two telescopic wheeled lifts in the new series,

The 62ft 8in (19.1m) platform height AS-63HD features a 2,200lb (1,000kg) platform capacity and combines the outreach of a boom lift with the vertical lifting power of an RT scissor lift. It can take up to 10 occupants in the platform. It has an automatic 4-motion control and a 360-degree continuous platform rotation.

It joins another telescopic wheeled lift, the AS-69J, with a 68ft 7in (20.9 m) platform height and a 54ft 10in (16.7-m) outreach, featuring a jib.

Crawler series

The articulated and telescopic crawler series has routes in Tadano’s longstanding crawler crane range, and includes six models with one electric unit.

  • AS-58CJ: Offering a jib, the model has a 57ft 9in (17.6m) platform height with a 40ft 2in (12.2m) outreach and offers dual platform capacities of 750lbs (340kg)/550lbs (250kg). It delivers 6.86 psi travel position ground pressure.
